Stokes County Board of Education Recognizes New National Board Certified Teachers

The following teachers recently received their National Board Certification:

Tracy Horton at Francisco Elementary School
Tracy earned her certification in Generalist/Middle Childhood. She earned a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies in Middle Grades Education from Radford University in August 1997. Tracy began teaching in Stokes County in August 1997. Tracy has taught for 14 years.

Penny Willard at Francisco Elementary School
Penny earned her certification in Library Media/Early Childhood through Young Adulthood. Penny earned a BS in Elementary Education from Lees McRae College in May 2004 and a MA in Library Science from East Carolina University in May 2010. Penny began teaching in Stokes County in August 2004. Penny has taught for 7 years.

Emily Duncan at Nancy Reynolds School
Emily earned her certification in Library & Information Studies. Emily earned a BS in History from Campbell University in May 2001 and a MA in Library & Information Studies from University of North Carolina at Greensboro in December 2003. Emily completed Lateral Entry requirements in June 2007. Emily began teaching in Stokes County in August 2004. Emily has taught for 7 years.

Misty Leftwich at Pinnacle Elementary School
Misty earned her certification in Generalist/Middle Childhood. Misty earned a BS in Elementary Education from Lees-McRae College in May 2004 and MA in Elementary Education from Winston-Salem State University in June 2011. Misty began teaching in Stokes County in August 2004. Misty has taught for 7 years.

Nora Davis at Chestnut Grove Middle School
Nora earned her certification in Exceptional Needs Specialist/Early Childhood through Young Adulthood. Nora earned a BS in English from Keene State College in May 1993 and MA in Moderate Special Needs from Cambridge College in May 2001. Nora began teaching in Stokes County in August 2006. Nora has taught for 14 years.

Leah Simpson at Chestnut Grove Middle School
Leah earned her certification in English Language Arts/Early Adolescence. Leah earned a BS and MA in Middle Grades Education from Appalachian State University in May 1993 and August 1999. Leah began teaching in Stokes in August 1995. Leah has taught for 18 years.

Dianne Tilley at Piney Grove Middle School
Dianne earned her certification in Mathematics/Adolescence and Young Adulthood. Dianne earned a BS in Mathematics from Salem College in May 1995. Dianne began teaching at Stokes County in January 2003. Dianne has taught for 14 years.

Shiela Patterson at South Stokes High School
Shiela earned her certification in Social Studies - History/Adolescence and Young Adulthood. Shiela earned a BA in History from University of North Carolina Charlotte in December 1992. Shiela began teaching for Stokes County in August 1995. Shiela has taught for 16 years.

Kristine Mitchell at West Stokes High School
Kristine earned her certification in Mathematics/Adolescence and Young Adulthood. Kristine earned a BS in Mathematics from Ohio Northern University in May 2006. Kristine began teaching for Stokes County in January 2010. Kristine has taught for 5 years.

The following teachers recently renewed their National Board Certification:

Cynthia Boyles at Piney Grove Middle School
Cynthia earned her certification in Generalist/Early Adolescence. Cynthia earned a BS in History from Appalachian State University in December 1982 and a MA in Science from Appalachian State University in December 1982. Cynthia earned National Board Certification in 2002 and has earned her renewal in 2011. Cynthia began teaching for Stokes County in March 2984. Cynthia has taught for 27 years.

Nancy Marshall at Southeastern Stokes Middle School
Nancy earned her certification in Career and Technical Education/Early Adolescence through Young Adulthood. Nancy earned her BS in Home Economics from University of North Carolina at Greensboro in May 1986. Nancy earned National Board Certification in 2002 and has earned her renewal in 2011. Nancy began teaching for Stokes County in August 1996. Nancy has taught for 20 years.

Mark Powell at West Stokes High School
Mark earned his certification in Career and Technical Education/Early Adolescence through Young Adulthood. Mark earned his BA in Agriculture Education from North State University in May 1993 and earned his MA in Administration from Appalachian State University in August 2001. Mark earned National Board Certification in 2002 and has earned his renewal in 2011. Mark began with Stokes County in July 1995. Mark has taught for 18 years.
