Due to a power outage, South Stokes High School will operate on a two-hour delay this morning.
While Duke Energy is currently estimating that power will be restored by 5:00 pm this evening, we have communicated with individuals on site who believe repairs could be completed earlier this morning.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide an update if any changes are necessary by 9:00 am.
Thank you for your understanding and flexibility.

Good morning, this is Brad Rice, Superintendent of Stokes County Schools.
I want to thank our parents and staff for your cooperation and patience this morning. West Stokes and Chestnut Grove will operate on a two-hour delay today, with campuses opening at 9:00 a.m. Buses will arrive at West Stokes and Chestnut Grove as soon as possible. The shelter in place at Mount Olive will be lifted at 9:00 am as well.
We understand that some parents may wish to check their children out of school today. That is absolutely fine. If you choose to do so, please report to the main office and be prepared to present proper identification.
This morning, there was an incident in the car line at Mount Olive. An adult was found to be in possession of a firearm. According to initial reports, the firearm was not used in a threatening manner, nor was it discharged. Our School Resource Officer identified the situation and immediately confronted the individual. The adult left the firearm at the scene and fled. Law enforcement secured the weapon right away, and the suspect was taken into custody shortly thereafter.
We are grateful to the Stokes County Sheriff’s Department and emergency services for their swift and professional response.
Again, thank you for your cooperation, understanding, and support this morning.

Stokes County Schools Transportation hosted 11 other school district transportation departments on Tuesday, April 28th at Palmyra Methodist Church in Germanton for the District 4 Meeting of the North Carolina Pupil Transportation Association (NCPTA).
By all accounts, this was the most-attended district meeting in memory. There was great food (John Brown's Grill), meaningful fellowship, and lots of door prizes from our generous vendors.
There were also informative professional development sessions for Directors/Admin, Cost Clerks, Routers, and Mechanics. These role-specific PD breakout sessions were offered for CEU credit. It was a huge success and a great showing for Stokes County Schools.
Congratulations to our Transportation Department for making this such a great event and to Dr. Tedder for being voted the new Vice President of NCPTA District 4!
